Why I Write Stories

Stories connect us to each other and give us insights into our strengths and weaknesses, our perceptions and blindness, and what it means to be human. I write speculative fiction because it fires the imagination and provides an enlightening mirror into our past, present, and future relationships with each other and our environment. And I just love writing for the fun of it!

About Me

I’ve traded my attorney’s briefcase for an author’s pen and now revel in writing science fiction and fantasy stories instead of legal briefs. I am a twice-over alumna of U.C. Berkeley (B.A. & J.D.) and Cal Band. Originally from Sonoma County, California, my husband Michael and I now call Maui home. If I’m not at my computer or adventuring with Michael, you can find me at Kahekili Beach splashing around in the Au Au Channel.

Writing is a solitary experience, but being a writer is a collective one. I’m an active member of the following writers’ associations:

• Redwood Writers, a branch of the California Writers’ Club (CWC), one of the oldest and largest writers’ clubs in America.
• Women Writing Other Worlds (WWOW), an online community of women speculative fiction writers.
• Writers Across Space and Time (WATAS), a speculative fiction writing critique group.
